Administrator Walked in
Her Clients' Shoes

Vicki Lofstrom hadn’t
worked in eight years.
And so in 2004, she
found herself in the
dean’s office of the
Louisiana Technical
College North Central
Campus in her hometown
of Farmerville.
“I walked in the door,
sat down in front of the
dean and told her I was
scared to death and
didn’t know what to do.
I was not marketable. I
knew that I would have
to support my son and I.
I told her I needed
computer skills. I was
not computer literate in
any program whatsoever.”
The dean suggested that
Vicki enroll at the
college in the Office
Systems Technology
program to update her
skills and prepare her
for the work world.
Lofstrom received her
Office Systems
Technology Diploma in
May of 2006. She said
that by attending the
LTC she literally
“rebuilt her life.”
Within a few months, she
happily accepted a job
at the very campus that
had taught her so much
and supported her
through such a difficult
time in her life.
Lofstrom serves as the
STEP (Strategies to
Empower People)
coordinator, WorkKeys
assessment
administrator and
KeyTrain administrator
for the LTC North
Central and Ruston
campuses.
"I get to come in and
talk with women who
literally have nowhere
else to go and all they
want in life is a better
life – which is just
what I came in here
wanting. So I get to
relate to them."
